Hygrophila pinnatifida is a unique plant that originates from India belonging to Acanthaceae family. It has brown, green, red patched leaves on the surface with a distinctive burgundy color underneath. This plant can be grown emersed or submersed. This plant grows horizontal lateral shoots whose roots will cling to rocks or driftwood. To maintain its compact growth habit in the aquaspace, you should trim the top shoots regularly otherwise stems will grow high and upright with long leaves. It also requires light, nutrients, trace elements and sufficient CO2 (optional) to grow at its best. For propagation, runner like lateral shoots are best used. It can reach upto 15 to 30 centimeters or can even grow more. It belongs to Genus Hygrophila.
